At Fralin Pickups, we believe the best sound comes from the highest quality materials available, not fancy gimmicks.

Fralin P-Bass Pickups are like our J-Bass® Replacements: they have a huge fat tone. Fralin P-Bass Pickups are fat, punchy, and round. The lows are deep and rich, and the highs are sweet and clear. The first thing you’ll notice when you install these pickups is how you can hear more of your P-Bass. You’ll hear an extended low-end and a rounder top-end. These pickups are very vintage sounding, but with modern power.

  • For an era-authentic 50’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
  • For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
  • For an even thicker tone than the +5%, you can opt for +10%. This is perfect for anyone looking for an aggressively strong midrange and dark tone. Perfect for balancing out a bright sounding bass.
  • If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

Can you make pickups with grounded pole pieces?
  1. Q Can you make pickups with grounded pole pieces?

Hey Andy, if you install our Black Lead as ground, you will ground out the pole pieces. We do not additionally ground the pole pieces, but you can use metal tape on the underside of each coil to achieve this.

  3. Q Do you have 5 string p bass pickups?

Hey Hsinhan, not at this time, hopefully in the future!

  4. How does the output of your stock wound P-Bass pickup compare to an Allparts P-Bass pickup? I have a great P-Bass made almost entirely from the Allparts catalog, and this includes the current pickup. Allparts doesn't include much in the way of specs. If you look up this pickup on their website, all you'll find is that it is Alnico V, and 10.0K ohms. That pickup has served me well so far, but I'm looking for a better sound that's still true to a P... Read more

Hey John, it's really difficult to describe as we haven't heard the AllParts P-Bass. Our Stock Output comes in at 11K, so, you can reasonably expect our pickup to have more output and a thicker midrange. I would suggest going Stock first, and we can exchange within 30 days after, if you're unhappy for any reason.

  6. Hello I’m having your pickups on one of my P basses, and had on my vintage 1978 bass. On my vintage one I had some really loud pops when it was closer to the strings . I had to set up a pickup really deep into the body, which I didn’t like. But the sound was great and I have no problem on my another Precision, strings are really close to the pickups with no problem. Question is, do I need to try another Output? Will +5 give me a pop-free soun... Read more

Hey Artur, if your string is hitting the magnet of the pickup, your pickups are set too high. If you are setting your pickups to the optimal starting point and still have issues, then a higher-output pickup is recommended, and our +5% would be a good remedy for your problem.

  8. What output do I choose?
  9. Q What output do I choose?
A Good question. For the most balanced tone between highs and lows, go to the Stock Output, which is a replica of the earliest P-Basses. If you’re looking for a thicker and darker tone, opt for the +5% Output. If you’re looking for a cleaner and more articulate sound, opt for the -5% output.
  10. How do I orient the Fralin P Bass when installing?
  11. Q How do I orient the Fralin P Bass when installing?
A We always recommend installing with the Black Lead coming out of the treble side.
  12. Do you have Foam or Mounting Plates?
  13. Q Do you have Foam or Mounting Plates?
A As it turns out we don’t. You can use the styrofoam wrap the pickup was shipped in to mount the pickup – we use that all the time.

I finally found the P-Bass sound that was in my head. I ordered 5% overwound and I finally like the sound of my Highway 1. This is the 4th set of pickups I tried and I’m finally happy. Thanks!
